Good Day Fellow District Friends:

We have entered the third quarter of our year and gearing up for the District Convention which will be held in Mobile, Alabama. I know our friends from LA will treat us to an awesome time in the Azalea City. I am looking forward to it. I grew up in Pensacola, FL and knew a great deal that went on in Mobile. My buddies and I visited there many times for concerts and events. I was a 17 year old high school student and was stranded in Mobile one evening after an Eagles concert because the Causeway (US Hwy 90/98), which was one of few ways to get to Mobile from the east, was underwater. You youngsters have to remember the I-10 bridge was being constructed at the time and unless you traveled to Atmore, AL and came in from the north it was stay in Mobile and party some more. Yes, I actually used that excuse with my mom and it worked.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Anyhow, we'll install our new Officers, State Directors and our new Governor Laura Burton at this meeting and I am so excited for her. She will be a fantastic leader and so deserving of the office. We will also recognize our club Presidents for their year. This is always a nice presentation. We'll celebrate our District ADDYs too!

Kathie Chute and AAF West Tennessee have done an excellent job with judging our District entries. They have worked diligently and tirelessly to make our District show successful. I can't wait. There's always a great amount of work that comes from all over the District and the selective few that make it to the National competition usually do well. Thanks so much to Kathie and her committee as well as AAF West Tennessee for hosting this event.

I am also excited about the Club of the Year awards and Club Achievement entries. The District received a record number of entries this year. I want to thank the hard work of Teresa Treadway and her classic theme of chess to encourage more entries. From what I hear the clubs that entered Club Achievement are doing well. I encourage all clubs to enter next year. It is proven over the years that the clubs that enter "get it." They understand how to run their clubs and there's a correlation of success with those that enter. If your club entered one or all eight books... congratulations! Thanks for your dedication and hard work. It will be my honor to award these clubs in Mobile.

Until we meet again, take care and arrive safe.

Sincerely!

Curtis Vann, Governor

The District Executive Committee established the Charlie Malone NSAC Assistance fund
in 2007. The fund was named after former Governor Charlie Malone in honor of his
service to the District and his dedication to students. Voluntary contributions are
collected during the year and are given to the National Student Advertising Competition
